Friday 29th April 2011: Glas Tulaichean and Carn an Righ

Meg and I set out to hide in the hills today, traveling over to Spittal of Glenshee. We crossed lots of fords which Meg delighted in as well as following the line of an old railway. In fact, we followed a track from the farm all the way up to the first summit of the day Glas Tulaichean. There was a heat haze but views were still extensive. And we only met one other walker.
Our second Munro Carn an Righ was slightly lower (1029 metres as opposed to 1054 metres) but felt much more remote. As I could barely stand upright on the summit we didn’t loiter for lunch instead having it further down the glen.
Our walk back was through a steep sided glen –Gleann Taitneach – following waterfalls.
In all we did 28.8km with 4 km up and down Dalmunzie Castle Hotel (a grand baronial mansion) drive. Beautiful though the drive is, next time (as there are other Munros to do from here) I’ll pay to park at the castle and safe ourselves 4km of tarmac.
While we had missed the pomp and circumstance of the TV coverage we heard lots of Royal Wedding coverage on the radio.
