Wednesday 7th July 2010: Passo Padoi

While A+N+M went to do a 2B Via Ferrata and M+A set off to the meadows to sketch, I borrowed a bike and headed for Passo Pardoi. The guy lent me a helmet too. When I say I borrowed the kit I do mean borrow - as I left the shop with a Scott Contessa Spark 25 mountain bike with front suspension, mini power pump and puncture repair kit with nothing more than “pay me when you get back” : no deposit, no credit card details – not even my name. Must be my honest face again.
Got the hang of the gears and steering for a wee while before heading for Passo Pardoi. About 2 km inot the off road route, the path was closed! So, about turn and exactly an hour after setting off, I was only about 100 metres up from the apartment we were staying in.
I cycled up to Passo Pardoi via the road – an exhilarating ride zig-zagging up round over 30 corners. With views to die for – which happened to Fausto Coppi, professional cyclist and Tour de France participant. His memeorial is at the top of the pas. I had my photo taken there and with the Arrive! Passo Pardoi life size photo from 1952 Tour.
I also visited the Mausoleum to WW1 and WWII German Soldiers.
Oh, and at the top of the Pass, I took photos of the old London Route Master bis which was the very one used by Cliff Richard in “Summer Holiday”, the first film I was ever taken to see in the cinema. Awhhhh.
