Popped in to Kilmartin museum as I was intrigued by an article in the Oban Times about a totty wee female figurine. The Orkney Venus is described as the oldest representation of a human form ever found in Scotland and shows the earliest depiction of a face from anywhere in the UK. The tiny stone carving was found during an excavation by Historic Scotland on the island of Westray – so it’s also called the Westray Wife.
Reckoned to be 5000 years old, 2-3 cm tall on which one can see a face and what appears to be breasts. A wee cutie.
