POW Camp: Saturday 20th March 2010

A lovely spring day here and D, Meg and I set off uphill through the woodlands above Kinlochleven. Our first stop was to check if a graffiti sign really did say U R GAY: Yep, so too good an opportunity not to pose.
Next was rather a lovely waterfall and it was D’s turn to pose in her country finery with obligatory black lab in toe.
We continued to the remnants of the WW1 POW camp becoming increasingly overgrown in a wide clearing. The concrete flooring of the POW huts are still visible, as are what could be lazy beds for vegetables, but most other remains are covered in grass and leaves.
The road between Glencoe and Kinlochleven is known locally as the “Gerry Road” as the POWs from the camp built it.
The views on the way back down are breathtaking looking towards the twin Paps - Sgurr na Ciche on the left, and Beinn na Caillaich on the right - and Lochleven in the middle. All this in our backyard.
