Saturday 10th August 2009: Argyll Artmap

Friend L came through on Friday evening and on Saturday we headed out to sample some of the Argyll Artmap: artists from across Argyll were opening their studios so that we could see what they did where they did it. Only one Artist wasn’t in her studio as she lives in a caravan which doubled as her studio. Instead (as she is a member of Oban Mountain Rescue) used their premises. Beautiful mountain views – many of them local –Ben Cruachan featured regularly.
Visiting the glass worker was fascinating and L bought one of her sculptures. The glass worker, Karen, asked what else we had seen (the two other local Oban artists) and could she recommend one other artist on the island of Luing. She said Edna and Audrey would make us very welcome! They did and Edna asked me to put down that I was 26 years in London against my name and address so that she would remember exactly who I was! Edna and Audrey had the most beautiful home with spectacular views across the bay. Their gallery was the walls of their house!
Getting to and from the island involved a 90 second ferry journey. The ferry took a toal of 3 cars at a time...and all cars had to reverse off the ferry!
