David and Jill’s house looks out over the Moray Firth to Ben Wyvis so we could see distinctly our destination from the breakfast table! Boxing Day was a perfect Munro Bagging day: cool clear and inviting. The most navigation we needed was driving to the car park at the base of the mountain. A new path had recently been created most of the way up the mountainside. What initially we thought were remnants of snow was infact sacks with huge boulders helicoptered in to complete the restoration of the path. It was a well trodden route with lots of folk out walking off Christmas lunch – or so many of them said as we passed them. David sets a cracking pace which left even me behind at times.
It is a zig zaggy path up steep slopes which certainly got the heart going and kept the temperature up until reaching the long undulating summit plateau: then it was a dawdle to the trig point summit.
The plateau is covered in springy moss – except when frozen as it was today.
The views across Torridon and to the east coast were phenomenal.
David and Jill are two lovely walking companions. Last time David and I did a Munro together was about 20 years ago with my first topping of Ben Nevis. Our next one is scheduled already for the spring of 2009
