Early on there was a very low haar when I cycled anti clockwise round the island. Going this way was much more effort but still beautiful.
When we went to buy a paper in the afternoon, we realized how bad the haar was: the Glasgow flight was fogbound and there would be no newspapers today. We drove round to Vatersay and I did a coastal walk there. Again, stunning white sands with lots of birds and seals. I watched a golden eagle for several minutes.
In the evening I went out to Eilogarry for one last look at the airport and to see if I could glimpse the corncrake one last time. While I could hear the male calling he remained well concealed! His patch is directly behind Compton Mackenzie’s house for anyone else wanting to go and look for him.
