This walk involved a few firsts: first time this year I’ve ventured out on to a Munro without my thermals on, and, first time I’ve used my mountain bike to ease the long walk in and out. [I’ve done a complete Munro on the bike before but that’s another story]. Like yesterday the weather started out bright warm and yet hazy. I love long ridge walks along whale back mountain tops and Beinn Heasgarnich is just such a mountain. And not another soul insight. Its partner Creag Mhor is much more “peaky” and the descent from Beinn Heasgarnich was steep. However I took a wee paddle in the burn [a third first for this walk] which rejuvenated my feet and set me up for the steep ascent to Creag Mhor. By this time the haar had lifted and the views were stunning and the heat was hot. What a surprise I got (having not seen anyone all day) to see two people sitting on the cairn on the summit. Imagine even more of my surprise when more and more and more people came into my view: a grand total of 25 folk and 3 dogs – one of which came running over to see me. A black Labrador surprisingly enough. Cupboard love, I know. She had topped lots more Munros than I had – well over 100. And she was only 4 years old. I walked back down part of the route with a collie. Both of us were mesmerised with a paraglider, the last first of the day. When I got back to Badour near sea level it was lovely to be able to get on to the bike to meander back to the car. The style I had to carry the bike over to get to the car park was much steeper than I remembered from the morning, and the bike seemed to have gained weight.
