I loved my first visit to Kerera on a very wet February day earlier this year, so when I found out about this sponsored walk for Marie Curie Cancer Care on Kerera, I jumped at the chance of participating in it.
There were several people from the hospital on the walk – not that I knew them all, but many have chatted to me since. I knew I’d seen some of the walkers somewhere around Oban, but having them out of context and out of uniform makes it more difficult for me to recognise them!
Anyway, I walked with Sue who hadn’t been on the island before. We all had balloons for identification and once we had clocked in we set off. The island was looking a very lush green and had rich yellows of gorse and the smell of coconut, buttercups, dandelions and irises, to name but a few of the yellow flowers we saw. And the bluebells were something else. And the amazing rock formations were something else yet again!
We deviated from route to explore the castle. The views over the islands from there are stunning. Further round we stopped for lunch and I had my first pastel pencil ‘painting’ lesson! Sue made it look very easy.
The route of the walk was much the same as I had done previously – around the south side of the island, so I’ll be going back to explore the north of the island soon.
We took the wee motorboat over to the island and came home on the “big ferry” – it takes 12 people!
A brilliant day.
