Sunday 3rd February 2008: Isle of Kerrera

I watched the ferryman arrive on a quad bike and head towards the jetty on Kerrera. The ferry I expected was the big one in the photo. What he actually arrived in was the wee boat! There were only two of us human passengers and a wee dog. Having good mobility was useful when we arrived at the other side as the ferryman couldn’t pull the big ferry close enough to the jetty to let us step immediately on to dry land. A good climb and jump was needed!
I fell in love with the island: wild wonderful rugged peaceful. Romantic. A beautiful green island. Only about 30 people live on Kerrera. The scenery spectacular. Views over to Mull very inviting. Cattle from Mull were landed on Kerrera before swimming to the mainland to continue on the Old Drovers Road.
Gylen Castle is perched on step cliffs on the south east of the island. The blustery day gave real atmosphere to the place.
