I went to meet Linda at Waverley Station and we walked home from there – a woman after my own heart in terms of walking everywhere! We spent the evening catching up as we hadn’t seen each other since Linda had gone to live in Crete.
On Saturday we set off for Peebles to walk along the River Tweed. First Linda needed an outdoor shop or two and obviously had to draw me kicking and screaming into them. The walk was beautiful: the unseasonable weather left me wishing I had worn my shorts (honest, it was that hot!). The sunshine really highlighted the gorgeous autumnal reds, oranges and golds of the leaves. It also took us past some stunning old buildings – Neidpath Castle, a medieval building in a romantic setting, towering above us, and the Barns Peel tower and the later built and more elegant Barns mansion.
We rounded off our walk with a reviving drink in the Bridge Inn with Mo who showed great resilience of character by not joining us for the walk but remaining at her home to do “domestics”.
Dinner was at the Gurka literally at the end of NBT. Our waitress asked if we were incredibly hungry as we ordered so much! She said to make sure we asked for any remaining food to be “packed”
On Sunday Linda forced me into more outdoor shops, this time in Edinburgh, before we set off down the coast to North Berwick and Guillane. Another grand run. We ate second day Gurka food. Delicious
