As I had agreed to go to a training day on the Saturday (to round off my training as a volunteer for Highland Distance Befriending) I treated myself to a stay in an Inverness hotel for 2 nights (not pictured above!). The attraction: a swimming pool so that I could cross train for a 10 mile run I have coming up in November in the Lakes. I had a lovely swim on the Friday evening and then undid all the good of the swim by going to the hotel bar for dinner and a huge glass (maybe two) of sauvignon blanc. Slept like a log!
Saturday started with a swim and then it was on to the training day. Really interesting. The Befriending is to support individuals with mental health issues: help them feel less isolated in their remote and rural settings. It was good to meet my co-ordinator and put a face to the voice as we had been conversing by phone and e-mail. One of the talks was by a Community Psychiatric Nurse and that was fascinating.
Stayed out the bar on Saturday evening! On Sunday I headed back south hoping to attempt a Munro or three. The weather was horrendous, so with discretion being the better part of valour I turned back after completing the first Munro. This was a landmark for me as I’d now completed my first 50 – that could be the title of a good book! The First Fifty. Think someone else has beat me to this title. The 50th was A’ Chailleach. Can’t wait to try it’s partners Carn Sgulain and Carn Dearg. Pictured above is the bothy for my lunch stop.
