Saturday 8th September 2007: Struan - Skye

Mum and I went in search of an old cemetery at Struan, Loch Harport, in Skye to find the graves of two Cullin Mountain men who were buried next to each other. John MacKenzie was born at Sconser and was the Cullins first and (most famous) guide. He and Professor Norman Collie climbed together for almost 50 years. The graveyard is small and old, the grave stones humble and unassuming. It was very moving. There are pictures of the two men in the exhibition space at the Sligachan Inn.
A couple of mi,es along the road from Struan on Loch Harport we stopped for a picnic: and what did we see a Golden Eagle: had a bit of a cruise around on the thermals and then landed on a big stone and sat there for quite some time. Gorgeous beast.
