Saturday 22nd September 2007: Circular tour

Mum and I set off on a trip to Oban. We were reminiscing about the last time we’d been there: when we had taken the caravette to Islay and Jura which was two years past last May.
We deviated from route to visit Ardchattan: first the kirk, a beautiful building (pictured above) and then the priory and gardens. The original priory is now a ruin (dating from 13th century), and the existing priory is a family home. The gardens are beautiful. From the information sheet I picked up to do my self conducted tour, I learned that a garden has existed at Ardchattan since the thirteenth century, when the Priory was founded by the Valliscaulian monks.
There is a cactus hothouse with some stunning specimens: all the way round the shelves are cards hailing “1st Prize” in numerous competitions.

Oban was vibrant and bright and sunny and busy. We shopped and picked up goodies for a picnic lunch which we had in Fearnoch Forest. Buzzards cruising about above.

Our trip continued to Tyndrum with a compulsory stop at the Green Welly where mum got a fabulous Weird Fish top, similar to those which Bridget and I have bought and have been modeling on my Flickr site.
