Algarve 2

We hired a car for 3 days and saw alot more of the Algarve coast and hinterland: all of it fab. It left us both saying: yes, we'll need to come back. We visited Tavira, Silves, Monchique, Loule and Lagos. All beautiful places. All worth visiting. Tavira has loads of churches and the Ponto Romano. Silves has a Moorish past and many beautiful buildings. What I loved the best was seeing storks nesting in the middle of town on an old palm tree. Storks nesting in unusal places was to be a recurring theme throughout our trip. Monchique is very rural, up in the mountains. The Medronho - strawberry firewater is meant to be the best. Didn't try any but nearly mowed down a local pedestrian who probably had been weened on it staggered into the middle of the road as I was drivng round a roundabout! Good brakes and Dee shouting me to stop heped! I loved the market town of Loule with a market, castle, churches and the Catto art gallery where we saw some fa pictures and mable sculptures and the Swinging Grace. Anthony wo worked in the gallery offered to take up up on to the roof to see the pice close up. Lagos had lovely cobbled streets, churches, old Moorish parts and the slave market.
