Sunday 17th April 2011: Big day out Beinn a’ Ghlo

Red deer red squirrels and handsome red pheasants – and that was only the drive to Loch Moraig where Meg and I were starting our first Munros of the year. A really glorious spring morning: warming sun and no clouds and the smell of growth and newness in the air. Beinn a Ghlo is actually a range of hills with many ridges and corries and summits three of which are Munros: Carn Liath, Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain and Carn nan Gabhar. All whalebacks. As we drove up past the Pass of Kilicrankie we saw Carn Liath but the other two Biggies are hidden really until we reached the summit of Carn Liath. Not another soul in sight.
As we were leaving our third Munro summit a guy with a really big smile came towards me arma outstretched to hug: Eric (and further back running to catch us Jane his wife) who I’d met on holiday in Nepal. Eric said I hadn’t changed which was very true: same hair style and I was wearing walking gear I’d bought in Nepal. Quite catch up and then said our au revoirs.
Meg kept company of a springer spaniel most of the way down periodically flushing out ptarmigan and black grouse.
14 miles round trip and Meg was exhausted, as was I.
