Going for Gold: Healthy Working Lives Award

A few months ago my boss asked, via email, if I’d like to do some massage for staff as part of the HWL award. I jumped at the chance. She then emailed me to say she was looking for someone to lead the team, would I consider doing that. I was hooked: getting time to do work on physical emotional and environmental well being is right up my street. What I didn’t know immediately was that while we had had 3 years to go for the award, there was now only 10 months left in which to accomplish this.
Having worked in Further Education where getting 10 months for a project of this size would be considered a luxury I took on the role.

This has involved a lot of work – not just for me, also for the team. I’ve now got a reputation for running meetings to time and on time and nipping at peoples heals’ to make sure they follow through any actions they have been minuted to do.

I’ve also been to Mull (picture of Duart Castle on Mull above)to Dunaros Hospital to offer massage sessions to staff there, out to another community venue – also being assessment and in the final week leading up to the external assessment I’ve been doing my regular job interspersed with massage tasters for staff in the hospital.
Great fun for me, and I’ve been getting very complimentary feedback.
15th and 16th March were the Big Days with the external assessor visiting our sites.
We need to wait for about three weeks till the validation panel (at Scottish Executive level) has met before we know for sure. Initial feedback is that the portfolio I built was the best the assessor has ever seen and all sites visited were very positive about HWLs, so she’s recommending us for the award.
