Saturday 13th June 2009 - Meg and Me

A few weeks ago I contacted Argyll Animal aid via their website. While Pat passed on the phone number for the kennels they house any rescue dogs in, she warned me that they rarely have had any Labradors to rehome. With this thought, I didn’t phone the kennels for nearly three weeks. When I explained that I was looking for a Labrador and asked if I could go on to their register, Fiona said “You’re not going to believe this. I’ve just taken in an 8 year old dog. No-one else knows he is here yet. He’s slim and very active”. I said I would sleep on it as I had really wanted a younger bitch. By the time I went to see Duke (Jenny from work coming with me) Fiona had called and said “you’re not going to believe this, but I’ll be taking in 2 two year old labs over the weekend, one of which is a bitch”.
When Fiona went to fetch Meg to meet me, Meg ran straight past Jenny and bounded up to me hitting me in the chest with her front paws. “She’s chosen you” said Jenny. Then Meg gave me The Eyes.
Jenny and I walked both Meg and her companion Micha. Again Meg only had eyes for me.
Fiona had warned me that Meg was underweight and stinking on cow shit. Both aspects true and both easily remedied.
Meg came home with me there and then. We made game out of a shampoo bath in the garden. On Sunday we went out to Dunstaffnage where I learned Meg is a strong swimmer. Ah, the smell of we dog in my car!
Monday and Tuesday I finished work at lunch time and being in the garden with Meg lots of neighbours came to meet her.
Meg is a good traveller. She’s been to Inverness with me twice and Inveraray for work meetings. Well, I went to the meetings Meg watched the car.
She’s been with me now for just two weeks. She’s turned my world on its head in the best possible way. I can’t imagine not having her now. She’s adorable and adoring.
