Glorious drive through and early start to pick up J and G. Then on to Dunbar to rendezvous with M, N, A et al who were there as cheer leaders and backup crew for M and I as we were running the Dunbar 10km. Lots of laughter, photographs, coffee and cake before and after. M and I ran our own races this year and I was delighted with my time: a head wind all the way round no matter which direction the route took makes for hard work.
Note the differences in clothing: M with shorts and t-shirt me with waterproof, long Ron Hill tracksters, hat, buff (gloves in pocket!) – and I kept all this kit on until nearly 9km! Not that I found it cold.
Pick up medal, can of Belhaven Best, shower and on to the beach. Whole place to ourselves for much of the afternoon. Watched gannets dive bombing for fish both close to the beach and over the Bass Rock. Played Frisbee and other beach bat and ball games.
Shopping opportunities at Fort Kinnaird before dinner at A+N’s where I met A+M who with A, N, M and I would be making up the Dolomites party in July 2010 for M’s 50th birthday celebration.
After a leisurely breakfast the 6 of us met up again at Alien Rock to practice abseiling, belaying and climbing just in case we decide to do any Via Ferrata rather than just high level walking on the Dolomites. Learned about the hazards of doing the belay for someone who is a bit heavier than oneself – my feet left the ground and we met in mid air!
