As mentioned below, Beinn a'Chlachair is usually combined with two other Munros, which I set out to do today. Over the last week Scotland, except for Oban, has had lots of snow. Because of this little oasis here little did I really appreciate how much snow. By the time I reached Fort William the sides of the road were piled with snow but the road AOK. Turned off the A82 at Spean Bridge on to A86 and suddenly the snow was everywhere: all over the road and piled deep at the sides. And it was obvious that the gritter had not yet been through today as the car waltzed across the road: sufficiently scary to stop and wait for my legs to stop trembling!
Then I said to myself: so where are you going to park - no chance of getting into the lay bye with all the snow!
Rethink about turn and head back to Fort William. One of my favorite Munros Carn Mor Dearg is accessible from the roadside. It's a lovely walk having lost count of the number of times I've walked up the Distillery path towards the north face of Ben Nevis.
Leaving the path on to the mountain side was hard work: snow up to thighs often! But well worth the effort. Earned my dinner!
