I always try and spend some time with mum round this time of January – dad died on 14th Jan 1999. So today we took a wee drive out to Mallaig to see how far the new road changed the route. We took the new road out to Mallaig and came back the scenic route – the coastal route or old road. The new road is much faster, but the old road with its passing places still has the greater charm.
When I picked mum up there was hail stones. We may have just hit it lucky but Mallaig was sunny and we picnicked (in the car). A walk on Camusdarach beach on the old route back and a stop at the old church near Loch Ailort completed the “Local Hero” aspects of the trip.
