I set off early to the Spittal of Glenshee. The weather for Munro-ing was meant to be better in the east: a higher cloud base. My walking companions on the way up Glas Maol were tens of dark coated mountain hare and several black grouse. The cloud closed in as I approached the summit and the compass and GPS came to the rescue to help me find the ridge to continue to Creag Leacach. Rather than doing a circuit as my book of routes suggested I retraced my steps hoping that the cloud might lift and I would see where I’d been. The plan worked! Fabulous views opened up over the Cairngorms.
And on the drive home I was rewarded with a sighting of an osprey.
