One of my favourite local walks is through the Marina, round Dunstaffnage Bay, on to the Back Beach of Dunbeg and round to the rocks where I sit – with a flask of tea – looking over to hills of Morvern and the island of Lismore. There are also two smaller islands just outside Dunstaffnage Bay which are close enough to survey with my binoculars and they are usually covered in sea birds and occasionally an otter..
Today I got side tracked en route as I spotted an otter even closer to home. The otter was cavorting in a tidal stream just as I left Dunbeg in Dunstaffnage Bay. I watched it for over a quarter of an hour diving for fish, scurrying along the riverbank ducking in and out of holes and long grass at the side of the stream. Periodically it looked over in my direction in a short sighted sort of way but then continued with what it does best. Awesome.
