With Zsuzsa and family having visited me in Oban on Tuesday, mum and I were invited on Friday evening to see where they were staying: a beautiful cottage at Tirindish just outside Spean Bridge.Zsuzsa had bought balloons and candles and cakes and they all (belatedly) sang Happy birthday to me! What a lovely touch! And the cake was tasty too. On Saturday mum and I took a trip out to Mallaig. The steam train passes my mum's door at 1030 hours and we saw and heard it pass as we set out. The train beat us to Mallaig and as we arrived I saw a man with long white blond hair, long black cloak and carrying a wand - a look alike Lucius Malvoy had just arrived on the Howarts Express. We were slower than the train because I had a wee walk on Camusdaroch beach - gorgeous white sands where part of Local Hero was filmed. We drove the old coastal road out to Mallaig and then the new road back. Late afternoon (back in fort William) I did two walks up Geln Nevis: one along past the lower falls through hundreds of orchids, and one up to the Steall Falls through the Glen Nevis Gorge. This is the most beautiful half mile walk in Scotland - and one of the most beautiful half mile walks in the world. You walk through a steep narrow gorge and then suddenly you arrive in a big open space with the falls drawing you ahead.
