Since coming to Oban and even more so since I started passing Dunollie Castle each day on the cycle route, I’ve meant to check the OS map to see how to access the ruin. Today while cycling home I clocked some people walking in the woods down a path and I had an AHA moment – AHA that must be the way up to the castle – and it was. A well hidden path up through the trees. The views from the castle over the bay, out to the islands of Kerera and Mull are stunning. The castle which seemingly dates from 12th century is now a ruin and the outside is covered in vegetation – the texture of bark of the old ivy climbing up one wall is amazing.
