I took the Glen Lochy route up Ben Lui: stepping stones across the River Lochy up through trees shadowing a smaller burn before hitting the open hillside. The summit cairn of Ben Lui is in a magnificent place: right on the edge of the coire: stunning steep views all around. From here all the other local Munros look dwarfed – especially the other one I was tackling today: Beinn a’Chleibh. While it was bright and sunny and breezy all day the earlier haziness lifted and views were stunning. On the lower slopes I saw the first orchids of the year. Rather beautiful.
