Sunday 27th April 2008: Stob Coire Sgriodain and Chno Dearg

Having had a lovely day with Houston and Jane yesterday on the Island of Seil, today I was back onto the mountains. Today was bright and breezy with blue skies. To reach the two Munro’s I drove to Fersit just beyond Spean Bridge. It was quite bogy until well up the hillside and once onto the ridge, very rocky: as ever the views made it all worth while. While the snow on the mountains was quite soft, I still felt more confident using crampons as one of the slopes was very steep.
I was beaten to the summit of Stob Coire Sgriodain by wildlife; I arrived at the summit of Chno Dearg just ahead of another walker, a man who proceeded to build a large ariel to do some radio tests. I wheedled that phrase out of him! I got the sense that he wasn’t particularly pleased that I was there. His body language was huffy and he was monosyllabic – most unlike most hill walkers I bump into. We’re usually a very chatty bunch!
An easy day and home via mum’s.
