Sunday 6th January 2008: Cadderlie Bothy and Dail Pier

Photo: panorama from Cadderlie Bothy

As the weather did not sound at all promising for “tops” today, I decided on a walk which started at Bonawe Quarry along a track by the side of Loch Etive: lots of heron, ducks, tits and swans for company.
I had my elevenses in Cadderlie Bothy, which is in a grand spot. I decided to carry on to Dail Pier and as I wondered down to the lochside to the pier two swans caught my attention and directly behind them some “seaweed” was moving – out jumps an otter from the loch onto the rocks. Back in it went to the water and treated me to some aqua acrobatics. What a beautiful sight. Such graceful movements. Elegant. I watched the otter for several minutes and then it disappeared from sight. I moved round to the other side of the wee bay and sure enough otter is still doing what she oughta.
