Stob Diamh is the other Munro making up the Ben Cruachan ridge. Stob Diamh is also the other Munro I didn’t get done when I did Ben Cruachan as the weather was a white out. Well, today turned out wild! Between blizzards the weather was clear and bright. However, when I hit the ridge leading to the summit of Stob Diamh the wind was amazingly strong. It was so strong when I caught up with two men on the summit I asked them if they thought one could go down via the bealach rather than returning along the ridge. They had just agreed they were going to go down that way (having decided against continuing their walk along the ridge to Ben Cruachan) so I asked to follow them so that someone would know where I was as I was deviating from route.
I finished taking my photos and turned to follow the leader and I was blown off my feet! What a strange feeling having no control over the direction of one’s body: skitting over the snow and ice with the wind deciding on my path! Fortunately I was able to grab a rock which stilled my movement. Fortunately too the summit isn’t too narrow! Bruised knees and a staved thumb were my only injuries. Thankfully.
