Friday 25th January 2008: Dugie and Stanley's Civil Partnership

Mum and I went to Edinburgh to participate in Dugie and Stanley’s civil partnership. A small get together of friends and family Dugie told me: only eighty of us! Yikes, me and crowds…I do have to admit it was stunning and magical: one of those days which will remain in my memory forever. The venue was the Queen Anne room in Edinburgh Castle. The fact that the weather was wet and wild gave it even more atmosphere! A harpist and fiddlers provided music before during and after the service. A piper piped the happy couple and guests in and out of the service. And Champagne canapés and dinner was served in the suite.
I brushed up as nicely as any other guest – although I do think the men stole the show as most of them (including the two “grooms”) were in kilts.
What was interesting was that apart from Dugie and Stanley, two of their friends from South Africa, myself and one other “single” gay male the six of us were the only gays in the entire party! The rest of the party were heterosexuals.
