A weekend trip through to Edinburgh for the AD’s Christmas lunch on Sunday. 21 of us met at Saruchi Too in Leith: very tasty and good fun.
To work up an appetite I met Mo for a walk on Saturday. We did a circular walk in Glentress – the quiet end of the Glen Mo described it as. So not only were we not run down by mountain bikes, we didn’t even see any.
We saw a bullfinch (definite) and a bird we didn’t get a good enough view of to confirm: I thought a jay and Mo thought it possibly fieldfare. We agreed it had a white rump.
What was spectacular was the big and raucous crow roost. We arrived just in time to see hundreds of crows swooping – weaving – their way around each other in huge flocks. The timing was just as the sun was setting and the action and noise continued till after sunset when they all crowded onto the trees. First the sky was black and then the trees were crowded with crows as they settled into their communal night roost. This amazing site was an amazing sight.
We topped this off with a half of Thrappledouser in the Bridge in - the Trust I think the locals call it. Slainte.
