Saturday 24th November 2007: Glasgow Radiance

I popped through to Glasgow as darkness fell today: the reason to see some of the International Festival of Light artworks / installations. Having heard the artist Xavier de Richemont being interviewed on Radio Scotland on Friday I wanted to see and hear what he had done to the Cathedral. He said that after he had been approached to do this, he had gathered information about the history of the building, took some notes, listened to some music and then put them together to tell the story of the Cathedral and St Mungo. (He had undertaken a similar project on Chatres Cathedral)
The Cathedral became an animated mural using words and pictures and music to portray the city’s past. Most of the music used was ecclesiastical except for the final piece many fittingly for St Mungo’s, Mungo Gerry’s “In the Summertime” provided the finale!
