I set out to view 3 properties: a remote and isolated farmhouse near Kilmore and two properties in Taynuilt. I ended up viewing 4 places.
I rendezvoused with the estate agent (Sandy Dawson) in Oban and he led me to the farmhouse. Absolutely stunning location overlooking a loch. If the property had been for sale rather than rent, the view Sandy told me would add £50,000 on to the price! Good sized rooms. Sandy asked if I really wanted unfurnished accommodation and if not, would I like to see a property at Dunstaffnage Bay. I went for a look. What a cracker! Sandy described it as a “character cottage” and it was part of a larger country house. The cottage had grown like Topsy. It was warren like. And it had a deck and a private garden overlooking the bay. What a beauty.
On to Taynuilt to meet a lovely couple who owned Riverbank cottage. Again, two bedrooms and open fire. Mr and Mrs Nicholson knew I didn’t have another appointment till 1500 hours so they invited me back to where they lived for tea and a blether. I asked them how they decide on tenants – depends if we like them was the reply!
My fourth property was also in Taynuilt: it was pokey, so not in the running.
My decision: if Sandy could get the rent reduced on Dunstaffnage Bay I’d like there, if not, I’d have Mr and Mrs Nicolson’s cottage in Taynuilt.
Sandy got me what I wanted so I’ll be living in Dunstaffnage Bay. In a country house, with driveway and private gardens. Cycling distance from work.
