Saturday 18th August 2007: The Edinburgh Festival

I think the population of Edinburgh must double during The Festival. (The population in my house has gone from 1 to 4 if that’s anything to go by as Dugie, Stanley and Sauchi are back for a holiday). There’s an amazing buzz around the place. The Meadows are alive with performers practicing. The High Street on the Royal Mile is closed and walking through there one sees and hears lots of snippets of street performers acts. There’s free music in Princes Street Gardens.
I have even paid to go and see a few of the performances! Val McDermitt and Denise Mina were great entertainment. They obviously had known one another for years and it was more like a humorous chat between the pair of them than a moderated discussion.
The Edinburgh Photographic Society have an exhibition of international photography. Pictures are stunning. And some of the photos look like watercolours rather than photographs.
I’ve been to see 2 films: Les Chansons d’amour – a musical with a difference – and Year of the dog. Both well worth a look.
