First impressions of the outside of Saughton House - barracks or a hospital, and I think it was built as an army hospital but was never used.
The building is a lot of separate spurs in two long lines, joined in the centre by a corridor. The spurs are named A-Y, so little chance of getting lost unless one doesn't remember one's alphabet.
In some ways it is fitting that the information service is in the Y spur, as that's one of the main questions I have to ask. "Y" are we doing this and "Y" are we doing that.
However, being in "Y" spur we're in the worst place possible for an information service - at the far end of a bulding which few people have reason to pass. Infact, few customers are in this building: most of our customers are remote.
The information service is not well thought of. Some senior colleagues don't see the need for an information service when they have Google and Amazon.
It's going to be an interesting experience trying to win them round...
