Mum turned 93 years old on Sunday 26 May. Her chosen birthday treat was to be a day trip to Skye via the Glen Elg Ferry – an old turntable ferry which only takes a maximum of 6 cars.
Getting to Glen Elg involves going over the Mam Ratagan, a road which I remember as a small child mum insisting dad turned back as it was too scary for mum to continue in the car. Well cars are more powerful now and mum feels the road has improved and she loves getting to the top of the Mam Ratagan and stopping for tea and to admire the views over The Five Sisters of Kintail.
While waiting on the ferry mum enjoyed ‘smoking’ her lemon wafer sticks.
Our destination was the Portree Bakery for the most delicious tattie scones. Mission accomplished and we headed over the Struan Road to Sligachan. A fabulous run and the drive of a lifetime.
We saw these two old-stagers (Austins) in Portree and they did catch us up on the sound of Sleat we as scoffed our tattie scones.
