A trip up to Inverness to attend a workshop facilitated by Highland Rainbow Folk, a group of older LGBT people set up to highlight issues that older LGBT folks face in the Highlands in accessing health and social care services. What a great session. They used a story telling approach to highlight discriminations from their past and how situations might be with health professionals as LGBT folks grow older. The facilitators took the view that people aren’t actually phobic but that information just isn’t out there to help them think through their approaches.
Everyone in the audience participated and wanted to know what sorts of things NHS Highland could be doing to make everyone welcome when they needed to access health services. A very positive session.
