Saturday 5th July 08: Sron a’Choire Ghairbh and Meall na Teanga: a feast for the senses

You get your first view of these Munros as you drive up the A82 along the side of Loch Lochy.
There is quite a long walk in to them but once you’re actually on to the path, leaving behind the trees, you’re on the Cam Bealach which follows an old “coffin road” – used by crofters to carry their dead to the graveyard at Kilfillan, where the walk starts.
The views from the summit of Sron a Choire Garbh are impressive and the views from Meall na Teanga are enough more stunning – south to Ben Nevis, north up the Great Glen and west to Knoydart and beyond.
Today’s walk really satisfied all the senses – including taste as there were wild strawberries and blaeberries to pick.
The birdsong of stonechats and the splashing burn satisfied the aural aspect, breathing in the resinous aroma of pine trees and ferns, touching the pine bark of my favourite Scots Pines and the stunning views of the landscape as well as the wild flowers, orchids, dragonflies, butterflies and moths satisfied all other senses.
