Saturday 19th April 08: Western Drumochter Munros

I was up and out before 0700hours heading for Dalwhinnie for what was to be the longest walk I’ve done in quite some time - 23km up and across the 4 Munros making up the Western Drumochter hills: Geal Charn, A Mharconaich, Beinn Udlamain and Sgairneach Mhor.
It was a gorgeous clear and bright day and I had it mostly to myself. The views were stunning. My favourite mountain of the day would need to be Sgairneach Mhor where on going round and down the ridge you get beautiful views of the Coire Creagach cornices – pictured above!
The bird life was great too: ptarmigan, grouse, dotterels and a snow bunting.
A cup of tea at my mum’s on the way home was most welcome.
