Saturday 11th April 08: Carn na Cairn and A'Bhuidheanach Bheag

An early start to drive to Dalwhinnie for these two Munros. The drive up from Spean Bridge and over Drumgask has to be one of my (many) favourite rides. The walk up from Dalwhinnie to the mountains would I imagine usually be straightforward and a relatively easy slog. Walking through snow makes for a harder walk especially when the depth of it hides the path. Trust in the compass is necessary. Especially so when the route says walk to the top of the disused quarry – I’ve yet to find it! Fortunately the GPS told me I was at the co-ordinates where I was to go left for Carn na Cairn and right for A’ Bhuidheanach Bheag. It took me ages to find the summit of Carn na Cairn as there was a white out. It was disorientating not being able to see anything, but again the new fangled technology helped me out, which took away the scary bits! Between the blizzards the weather was great as were the views. I even came home with a sun burnt face. As mentioned earlier the snow made for a harder walk and I arrived back at the car with a smile on my face and heavy legs. The heavy legs grew less and the smile grew even bigger with a large glass of wine. Slainte!
