This morning I managed to drive into good weather and enjoyed the views from the summit of Meall Chuaich. The mountain weather forecast said there would be a 60% chance of a cloud free top in the Cairngorm region. Hence my choice of top (of mountain, nothing to do with what tea-shirt I was wearing). Meall Chuaich is one of the Drumochter Hills and a doddle from Fort William where I’d been staying for the weekend. The walk in is along an aqueduct to a dam – Loch Cuaich - before striking out up a heathery hillside passed a secluded bothy. A mountain hare zoomed past me on the summit and enroute I saw a number of curlews, black grouse and peewit. The summit is well hidden – I just had to trust that it was there. Well, the GPS helps!
